Satisfyingly playful, chic, and original, Verrier is one of my favorite collections thus far. The designer, Ashleigh Verrier, took her inspiration from the 1964 film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg". Conservatively bright colors and playful silhouettes are counterbalanced with diaphanous sleeves in dark colors and demure, buttoned up jackets in black- much like the film, a romantic story of young love torn apart with a lingering sense of despair prevailing until the film's resolution. In keeping with the trends this season, Verrier incorporates a tasteful rose palette along with tiering, ruffle detailing, and tuxedo-style pleating- two highlight pieces were a three tiered ruffle skirt in navy and a shirty dress in champagne with tuxedo pleating on the breast and all along and down the back.
